Headache Relief in Launceston

man touching temples in painHeadaches have a way of completely upending our lives. They prevent us from enjoying events with our families, have us reaching for over-the-counter meds to make it through our workday, and they may become debilitating when the pain is unbearable, or they reach migraine status.

Frequent headaches may be due to misalignments in your spine and a nervous system that’s unable to work to its optimal level. Through chiropractic care at Tamar Chiropractic, your spine will be readjusted into proper alignment, in turn alleviating symptoms like your headaches.

What Kind Do You Struggle With?

We see patients who experience a number of different types of headaches. The more common examples we see include:

  • Cervicogenic - A common, chronically occurring headache, where pain originates in the back of the neck and up along the forehead, eye, temple and ear. It may also cause pain in the shoulder and in the arm on the same side.
  • Multifactorial - You may be struggling with a headache that was set off by eyestrain to begin with but has then been compounded by the poor posture you’re holding and a lack of mobility from sitting in front of the computer all day.
  • Migraine – Though they’re not well understood, we do know that neck dysfunction exacerbates these kinds of headaches. Symptoms include severe head pain, light sensitivity, feeling nauseated, and having your vision affected.

At-Home Headache Tips

If you find you’ve noticed an increase in cervicogenic headaches, staying well hydrated is a great benefit. We also find many patients have a positive response to magnesium supplements.

If you’re experiencing headaches at work, having your eyes checked is an important first step to take, as well as improving the ergonomics of your existing workspace. Ensure your computer is an arm’s length away and you’re sitting at a 90-degree angle in your work chair with both feet on the ground.

Some of our clients also find that using a resistance band two or three times a day, for 30 or 60 seconds, helps to turn on their neck muscles and keep them engaged. Break up your sessions of work with movement, by getting out into light and fresh air. This helps alleviate the tension that builds in your neck and upper back muscles.

Reclaim Your Wellbeing With Chiropractic

Additionally, chiropractic adjustments are helpful in realigning the spine and encouraging the body to help heal itself. Not only will consistent chiropractic care benefit patients who suffer from chronic cervicogenic headaches, but we also find there’s a noticeable downtick in the frequency and intensity of migraines in our patients who receive chiropractic care.

If you’ve been struggling with headaches at home and work, contact us today to schedule an appointment, and we’ll get you back to living life without the discomfort and pain of these frequent visitors.
